A complete companion app for Animal Crossing New Horizons, developed by @GeneSy, it is truly everything you could wish for to keep track of EVERYTHING on your island! #animalcrossing #guide #animalcrossingnewhorizonsTweet
The release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons back in March 2020 was a highly anticipated title for fans of the saga and newcomers alike. This release of the popular IP by Nintendo allowed players to enter a fantastic island where you could fish and collect bugs just like in the old days of the Gamecube or DS. But this time, Animal Crossing also introduced the DIY recipes, which allow the players to create furniture and decorate their homes and island as they pleased. With the return of beloved characters like Tom Nook and the Able Sisters, this title also took the chance to introduce dozens of new faces with the addition of new neighbors and other NPC’s that visit your island now and then as unique shopkeepers or mini-quest givers.
With all the hype surrounding the game -and still holding strong thanks to their dedicated community-, some players are more than determined to collect every single creature available in the game and complete their Critterpedia to 100%. If I’m not mistaken, delivering all the fish, bugs, fossils, artworks, and sea creatures to Blathers’ Museum doesn’t unlock any extra feature or grants you an achievement or recognition. But this hasn’t stop completionist in their quest to have everything unlocked.
Keeping Track of Everything In Your Island
Here is where the ACNH Guide app comes into play. Developed by GeneSy, this app allows you to keep track of every essential in-game progress. Think daily tasks and important information like events, a flower breeding guide, and much more. With every update in Animal Crossing, they’ve added the necessary tabs to continue tracking everything. What’s great about this companion app, in particular, is that they have an incredible community behind helping with missing information, reporting bugs, and more. The features in this companion app might be similar to others available on a regular app store. Their UI fittingly follows the game’s aesthetics with pleasing typography, colors, and graphics extracted from the title.
When you start up the app, you’re greeted with the Home tab to get access to a daily checklist. People like me, who tend to get easily distracted with anything that moves or shines, will appreciate having a tangible reminder to talk to all residents, collect the daily fossils and pick up the DIY recipe at the beach shore. Even if at this point of the year most people might be swimming in materials, the app also includes a list of rocks on your island to keep track of the ones you’ve already hit.
You can add your villagers to get a reminder to talk to them and edit the list whenever one of them leaves, or a new resident moves into your island to hang out. All 391 characters are included in a gigantic list, which can be explored by species, personality, birth date, or gender. There’s also a visitor tracker, which can be useful for when you’re expecting to buy artwork from Redd or obtain a DIY recipe from Celeste.
Since Animal Crossing has some interesting events that only happen during certain days of the year, it’s good to keep track of those important dates to log into your island and get some sweet rewards. The calendan in ACNH Guide allows you to check on a monthly based calendar, which include your registered neighbor’s birthdays. Now you will never skip a birthday party of forget to gift a nice furniture for your villager’s home! Or you can go ahead and gift them something they dislike and try to force them to move away, that’s your decision.
Turnip Calculator Added
The Home tab also included a quick access to write down your turnip prices once you talk to Timmy or Tommy. The information input will transfer to the Turnip Calculator tab, so it’s a handy way to keep track of prices and check when is the best time to sell and get swarm by bells.
Speaking of which, players who are into the turnip market are already familiarized with this tool that allows them to keep track of turnip’s prices through the week. In case you don’t know, when you input these values into the Turnip Calculator, you obtain a reasonably accurate prediction of how much will be the top value for that week. Having this tool is practical for any dedicated player who want to get rich thanks to Daisy Mae. In the case of the ACNH Guide, you can enter your numbers and keep everything inside the app since it is connected to the famous Turnip Prophet. If you’re looking to complete all Nook Miles achievement, keep in mind that you get stamps for selling turnips until you earn 10 million bells. Even casual players can benefit from some extra bells, so write those numbers down!
What about The Fish and Bugs?
The biggest deal for completionists is knowing when some rare animals will spawn on their island to try to catch them. ACNH Guide will show in the Home tab what insects, fish, and sea creatures will appear. Since the game gives the option to select your island in the northern or southern hemisphere, this also affects when certain species will spawn. If you go to the Settings tab in the app, you’ll be able to toggle your island’s location. It will automatically show what time of the day they can spawn and in which months they are available accordingly. Each description also includes spawning areas and bell price, in case you’re wondering if it’s worth keeping some fish and wait for CJ to sell them for 1.5x their normal value. And, of course, you can mark down which ones you’ve already caught and select the ones you’ve donated to Blathers and keep a track on what you’re missing.
When artworks were introduced as a donable item for the museum, many people were left wondering how to discern between fake pieces of art from the real deal. This companion app also allows you to check on all the paintings and statues available and compare them to their known false copies. It is certainly an useful tool to avoid getting scammed by Redd, be it by accident or not. Or you can also search for image references on fake art to decorate your island like a museum, we don’t judge you.+
Flower Breeding Guide
Once you start to delve deeper into New Horizons, flower breeding is the next step for upgrading your island and decorate it with all types of hybrid flowers. But, without the information at hand, you’re left wondering why your roses keep sprouting with red, white, or yellow colors and nothing else. The app includes a useful guide where it shows what colors you need to combine and the probability of spawning. Checking this tab at this companion app will certainly make your life as a gardener easier. Imagine if you’re looking into flooding your island with blue hyacinths or you feel like grinding your way to the precious green mums. You’ll know where to focus your efforts on!
You end up downloading the app, and now you’re facing a new challenge. How do you get to register your gigantic collection of DIY or your progress with the Critterpedia the first time you launch it?
Fortunately, ACNH Guide includes a catalog scanner with clear instructions on doing this, at Nook.lol, with a useful bot. It involves recording your Switch screen and uploading the video to Twitter since they extract the information for the footage and autocompletes your list. It’s a handy tool and will save you the headache of inputting every individual data onto your smartphone or tablet. The bot can register your Nook Catalog, reactions, and music list as well, allowing you to keep track of every single item in your save file.
Of course, if you feel like doing it yourself, it only takes a tap on the screen to mark an item as collected or delivered to Blather’s museum. Anyone interested in reading the instructions can go to nook.lol. They included footage examples for people using the feature for the first time. You can add additional tags into your Twitter publication to link the footage to this companion app using the hashtags #ACNHGuide or #ag, but the bot is integrated with other apps as well.
On the sidebar there’s a Dream Islands tab, where you’ll get a featured and random island submitted by the community at ACNH Guide’s Discord channel. And, what makes this particular companion app stand out from the rest, is the fantastic community behind it. Thanks to their help, the app is available in several languages, and the translations follow the names in their respective localization.
Unfortunately, the Dream Island showcase will only show the descriptions in English. However, we think any non-English speaker can still benefit from just looking at the screenshots provided by the app and visit some of the Dream Island’s codes if you’re feeling curious.
Overall, using a companion app for tracking your progress in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great idea to know what content you’re missing and make trading with friends easier. The fact that you can register all your data thanks to the Catalog Scanner makes this particular app extremely easy to pick up and use right away, and even if you’re not interested in joining the community behind ACNH Guide, you’ll still benefit from their collaborations nonetheless. The app is free to download, but you can pay to remove ads and support the creator or join their Patreon.
